Construction Update

Thank you for your patience during our construction at St. Johns Racquet Center as we make improvements to our facility.

During phase one of the construction, new insulation was installed on the walls and ceiling over the courts. Phase two, scheduled to start January 14th,  will include improvements to the gutters and siding on both the interior and exterior of the building. This phase will ensure that the building's siding is fully sealed to prevent leaks.

Phase two construction will require that the sides of the building be removed for replacement. This will be done in sections and may interfere with one court at a time. Security fencing will be temporarily installed behind the court curtains in place of the siding. The fencing will be placed at least 3 feet behind the curtain in accordance with tennis court regulations, and we will encourage players to play at their own risk.

Thank you again to all of our players, we appreciate your support of Portland After School Tennis & Education at St. Johns Racquet Center!

We will continue to keep you posted with updates as the construction progresses. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please contact Evan Sims, Facility Manager, at

St. Johns Racquet Center (SJRC) is located in the heart of historic St. Johns in North Portland.  This is a public facility with three indoor tennis courts and one racquetball court.

SJRC is the home of Portland After School Tennis & Education (PAST&E). PAST&E is a nonprofit whose mission is to create partnerships with families, schools, and volunteers to help at-risk K-12 students achieve academic and athletic success. We accomplish this through one-on-one tutoring, tennis lessons, a nutrition/fitness curriculum, parent education, and a “best in class” development program serving junior players who excel at tennis.

In October 2012, PAST&E acquired SJRC in a lease with the City of Portland. Every time you play a play at SJRC you are "playing a point" for our Scholar Athletes and supporting our mission of making tennis and education accessible to at-risk you in Portland.
